Addonics Areca Highpoint LSI Enhance Tech Supermicro Open-E Cables
Why Open-E

We launched Open-E products at WebConneXXion.com to enable tech savvy customers to build & support their own Open-E powered storage systems and save a significant amount of money in the process. Our competitors typically sell Open-E products as part of an integrated solution, something not everyone wants. Whether you buy new server hardware, or would like to re-purpose existing servers Open-E will convert them into iSCSI, NAS, (or both concurrently) shared storage systems.

Technology Partners

Open-E provides a storage operating system that you can use with standard server hardware. Every Open-E solution comes pre-loaded on either a USB. Plug the DOM into your server USB, change the BIOS on your server to boot to that port and congratulations, you have just taken standard server hardware and turned it into a powerful shared storage system!

For a fraction of the cost compared to a similarly capable (capacity/performance) arrays from leading storage providers you can build a feature rich iSCSI and/or NAS storage system.

Open-E's new DSS product offers unified storage; iSCSI, CIFS, and NFS all within one platform. Furthermore, all protocols are managed with a single management interface simple enough to make any 'tier 1' storage provider envious, easing storage administration for the already overworked sysadmin.

Features you would expect from an enterprise array are also included with Open-E such as storage based snapshots (point in time copy), multi-pathing, and replication capabilities and without additional licensing, tier uplifts, or maintenance/support costs.

There are many storage providers out there leveraging the power of Open-E software combined with standards based motherboards, RAID controllers, and hard drives to brand their own very capable storage systems. For about the same effort as building a white box PC, system builders can now build powerful storage systems to resell for healthy margins, and motivated sysadmins can save their organization hard IT budget dollars.

We're confident you will appreciate the capabilities of the Open-E product and your shopping experience here at WebConneXXion.com!

Comprehensive Technical Support Options for Open-E DSS V6 Users

Open-E expands their technical support. Four support plans are now available.

Stoneham December, 9th, 2010:
I
n order to better serve their customers, Open-E, a leading developer of innovative storage management software, is providing three new technical support plans for their customers. The company has always offered one year of free Standard Support to all Open-E DSS V6 users. To this, Open-E is adding Basic Support, Premium Support and 24x7 Per-Incident Support. Support plan prices range from $199 to $399 per year. The annual plans run for one year from date of purchase. At the end of the one year term, support can be renewed for another year. Per-incident support is available as needed.

Standard Support provides Open-E DSS V6 users with e-mail and phone support during business hours and is still offered for free for one year. In addition the Open-E website has user forums, a comprehensive knowledge base and information about new releases. This plan and Basic Support (for DSS Lite users) both provide users the opportunity to receive assistance on technical matters from highly trained Open-E support engineers. Support requests are generally responded to within 2 days.

Basic Support is recommended for Open-E DSS V6 Lite users who use the free product which does not otherwise include support technical support. Customers now have the option of purchasing Basic Support which is provided through e-mail for the DSS V6 Lite Product.

Premium Support is an advanced support option. In addition to the basic services offered in the Standard Support plan, this option adds Remote Support and Small Updates for Open-E DSS V6. Another advantage is a faster response time to your technical requests. For critical problems customers will receive a support response within 4 hours. Typically Open-E Support engineers will resolve issues by phone or e-mail within one working day.

The 24x7 Per-Incident Support offers users the same fast and reliable service as our Premium Support, but by phone. In addition customers have the option to call regardless of the time of day or day of the week. Rather than being an annual plan like the above options, this service is offered on a per-incident basis. This plan serves the needs of enterprises using Open-E DSS V6 for mission critical applications.

New edition of the Storage Management Software Open-E DSS V6

Open-E DSS brings a new version of V6 to the market.
The software includes more than 15 new features that contribute to greater security, faster access and ease of use.
Stoneham, MA, October 5th, 2010: Open-E, a leading developer of innovative storage management software, releases on October 6th, the latest version of Data Storage software V6 (DSS V6). The result of continuous development is evident in more than 15 additional features. The new features increase the effectiveness and efficiency of DSS V6 storage software installations to meet the increased needs of businesses. For FC, iSCSI, SAN and NAS users, the product offers improvements in all areas, making it simultaneously the highest performing and most cost-effective storage operating system on the market.

The most recent development work for Open-E DSS V6 places emphasis on Fibre Channel functionality. Users now have the ability to switch quickly between FC initiator and target modes without restarting when using QLogic 2/4/8 GB. Users can also switch between Port Modes without rebooting. DSS V6 guarantees smooth operation during the configuration of the server thanks to Automatic Session Reassignment (ASR) for Fibre Channel and iSCSI Protocol. It allows you to rename, remove, and perform WWN assignment without interfering with other sessions or blocking operations. The use of QLogic host bus adapters has been enhanced in target mode. It is now possible to connect more than 8 ports to a machine. These changes contribute to higher performance of DSS V6.

With the addition of support for the Adaptec MaxIQ SSD, product-performance is increased as much as eightfold. The Adaptec MaxlQ SSD kit allows the server to cache frequently used data to a fast SSD. DSS V6 will now use this adapter automatically. Moreover, performance can be enhanced by adding more spindles using the expander in the upgraded Open-E DSS V6 LSI RAID Manager. Through the Open-E DSS GUI V6 multiple resources can be managed simultaneously. The new GUI Static Routing Manager enables changes in the order of the routing rules. This feature makes it easier to deal with the system if more network interfaces are connected on the same subnet.

The new Open-E DSS V6 also includes new ACL options for SMB/CIFS, such as Owner Inherit, Inherit Permissions, Inherit ACL's, Map ACL Inherit and locking. Administrators now have greater flexibility in configuring shares to support many different access and usage scenarios in multi-user and client-server enterprise environments. "We are delighted to improve the stability of iSCSI and Fibre Channel with a number of protocol enhancements and upgrades" said Krzysztof Franek, president and CEO of Open-E. "Our developers also improved the support for Adaptec controllers and made significant quality improvements in the networking IO code. These changes make the new version of Open-E DSS V6 storage software the most innovative and versatile on the market.”

Open-E and Intel
Notes from the latest Open-E blast email:

The exploding need for more storage capacity requires new features for backing?up and managing storage capacities over 16TB. Since November 2006, the first 64bit Open-E NAS installation is running with 54TB in one single volume!

Open-E is providing one of the highest performing IP-storage software for building NAS/ iSCSI solutions. In 2006 Open-E Partners have installed challenging projects at customers like SAP, US-Army, RAI Uno, national and private broadcasting studios and institutions like universities, police stations, research centers and governments. The largest known Open-E based installation in 2006 was in terms of capacity 90TB and in terms of users 60,000! And all managed by one single USB-DOM!
